Le Grand Jardin – A Cape Town Dream

Le Grand Jardin is a private estate in the heart of the historic Stellenbosch (est.1679) Winelands. The inspiration behind this project draws on the restorative qualities of the expansive garden and surrounding vineyards.

Le Grand Jardin was a wedding gift for the daughter of the neighboring estate and was designed by a student of Sir Herbert Baker- the most notable architect working in South Africa in the 1900s.

Rooted in enchanting environments – from the Cape and Argentinean Winelands to the Swiss Alps and
Africa’s pristine southern coastline – it offers a sense of space and wonder, where bold mountain peaks of the Helderberg in the heart of the color-changing vineyards, gentle rolling waves, secret gardens, glistening bodies of water and golden sunsets are gifts we delight in sharing.

The garden served as an inspiration for the home’s interior aesthetic. The walls of the double-volume entrance hall, covered in De Gournay ‘Amazonia’ wallpaper, act as an exuberant welcome and invitation to enjoy the garden that offers an intimate private world of escape.

Artistry exists in the interplay of timeless heirlooms and sensual textures of copper, leather, and velvet, set against the playful use of colour and craft.

The design immediately evokes memory with the hoots of night owls, nostalgic aromas of home-baked bread in the kitchen, and roses in the garden. Circu’s Rocky Rocket makes a VIP appearance in the Kids’ Room.

The Rocky Rocket it’s a children’s interactive chair, painted in red and white checkered pattern. The moon rocket has become an iconic symbol for kids, while parents will recognize it from the adventures of Tintin, kids will relate it to Buzz Light- year from “Toy Story”.

The Rocky Rocket has a RGB light and speakers and it can be controlled by a mobile app (or with remote control) that connects by bluetooth and you can choose the music you want to play in your smartphone. The app also has a sleep assistant and you can choose the colour intensity of the light and lighting effects.

With a complete family-centred appeal in mind, the villa welcomes children into a relaxed, yet playfully energetic atmosphere. Watch in affection as they run about carefree, enjoying the safe and wide-open spaces.

The manor house has three en-suite bedrooms: The main bedroom has a king-sized bed with en-suite (bath and shower); the second bedroom (kids room) has a double and single bed with bath and shower (en suite); the guest bedroom has a double bed with shower (en suite). A state-of-the-art, central media entertainment area with fireplace to cuddle up at, completes the living space layout upstairs.

The downstairs living area includes a fully equipped kitchen, formal dining room (seating 10), a sexy blue gin bar, tasting room with private cellar and drawing room/study/library with fireplaces.
